Inmate on weekend leave attacked his mother in Ohrid
46-year-old detained in Ohrid after allegedly beating his 67-year-old mother; he will be returned to Prison Prilep and faces charges.
A 46-year-old man from Ohrid who had been released from Idrizovo Prison on a weekend leave was detained after allegedly attacking his mother and throwing hard objects at their home, police said.
Officers from SVR Ohrid arrested the suspect late on August 7, 2026, after a report of the incident. The victim is a 67-year-old woman who, according to investigators, suffered physical injuries during the confrontation.

“On 07.08.2026 at 22:40 hours, police officers from SVR Ohrid detained S. Gj. (46) from Ohrid, acting on a prior report that around 21:00 he physically attacked his 67-year-old mother and threw hard objects at the house. He was brought to the police station and will be transferred to the Penitentiary Institution Prison Prilep, where he had been serving a prison sentence, and had been released on weekend leave. After full documentation of the case an appropriate charge will follow,” the police bulletin reads.
Police said the man was taken to the station for processing and will be returned to Prison Prilep, where he had been serving his sentence before the temporary leave.
Authorities will complete the investigation and file criminal charges once the case is fully documented, the statement added.
