Zelensky dismisses Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna
A presidential decree removes Stefanishyna after almost a year in Washington; she previously served as deputy prime minister.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has removed his country's ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, according to a presidential decree published on Thursday.
"Olha Vitaliyivna Stefanishyna is relieved of the post of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States," the decree states.
Stefanishyna had held the ambassadorial post in Washington for almost one year. Her tenure followed a high-profile domestic career in Kyiv.
Background
Before her appointment to the embassy, Stefanishyna served as a deputy prime minister of Ukraine. Her dismissal is one of several personnel changes that President Zelensky has implemented in key positions across the government and diplomatic corps.
The decree does not name a successor. The move is likely to trigger a brief transition at Ukraine's mission in Washington while Kyiv selects a replacement.
