Volodymyr Zelensky asks EU leaders for another €70 billion

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed European Union leaders at a summit in Brussels and asked for additional financial support for the coming years, including funds targeted at 2027.

“The war next year will cost 155 billion euros, and we need at least another 70 billion euros from you for defence, for weapons and for our resilience,” Zelensky told EU leaders at the summit in Brussels.

He described the request as a "realistic sum" and added a direct appeal: "Please provide this support."

The appeal specifies funding for defence, weapons procurement and broader resilience measures as priorities for the requested package.

Zelensky delivered the request as leaders gathered in Brussels to discuss European security and the bloc's response to the conflict in Ukraine.

The pledge of figures — €155 billion as the estimated cost of the war next year and a call for at least €70 billion in additional EU assistance — sets a concrete benchmark for discussions among member states.
