Zelensky begins three-day visit to Canada
Volodymyr Zelensky and Olena Zelenska will meet officials in Calgary, Toronto and North Bay; Ottawa says the trip will highlight Canadian leadership in support for Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska have arrived in Canada for a three-day visit, the office of Canadian prime minister Mark Carney announced today.
“President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska will be visiting Canada from 9 to 11 September. The visit will draw attention to Canada's continued leadership in support for Ukraine and will underscore our unwavering commitment to a just and lasting peace,” said Carney.
Planned stops and programme
The presidential couple are scheduled to take part in events in Calgary, Toronto and North Bay. According to the prime minister's office, the itinerary includes public appearances and meetings in those three cities.
Officials said the visit will focus on shared Canadian–Ukrainian priorities, including deepening defence, economic and energy cooperation. Zelensky is also expected to participate in a meeting of the Canadian government during the visit.
Zelensky last visited Canada in December of last year during a trip to the United States. The statement also notes that Prime Minister Mark Carney travelled to Ukraine in August of the same year.
The mission underscores Ottawa's continuing diplomatic engagement with Kyiv and arrives amid ongoing international efforts to consolidate political and material support for Ukraine.
