The country enters a dangerous phase with high temperatures, Angelov appeals for great caution
The Hydrometeorological Service (UHMR) forecasts daily temperatures above 32 °C and locally above 40 °C; the Directorate for Protection and Rescue (DZS) calls for caution with cigarette butts and sparks.
The Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Stojanche Angelov, warned that the country is entering a dangerous phase with very high temperatures and an increased risk of fires and appealed for particular caution with cigarette butts and sparks.
The Hydrometeorological Service (UHMR) announced that, under the influence of a warm air mass from the south, during the days of the extended weekend and until the end of next week the weather will be sunny and very warm with little to moderate local cloudiness.
Daily temperatures will be above 32 °C everywhere, and in some places will exceed 40 degrees Celsius, with high temperatures persisting during the night hours, the forecast adds.
Advice and figures from July
Angelov stated that in July the country experienced on average about fifteen fires per day, but that local rains helped reduce the number of fires, slowed their spread and made them easier to extinguish.
The Directorate appeals not to throw cigarette butts in dry areas, not to light open fires or burn stubble near grass and forests, and to handle machines and vehicles that can produce sparks with care. Citizens should immediately report smoke or flames to emergency services.
In conditions of prolonged heat even a small spark can quickly grow into a large fire, which is why the Directorate for Protection and Rescue again appeals for great caution.
