3,3-magnitude earthquake recorded in Prespa, felt in Bitola
The Seismological Observatory at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje recorded the tremor with epicenter in the Prespa area.
An earthquake with a local Richter magnitude of 3.3 was registered today at 14:04 by the Seismological Observatory at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje.
Epicenter and intensity
The Observatory's data place the epicenter in the Prespa area, about 127 kilometres southwest of Skopje. Residents in the southwestern parts of the country reported feeling the tremor.
According to the Observatory, people in the city of Bitola and nearby settlements felt the shock with an intensity of III–IV degrees on the European Macroseismic Scale.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. Seismologists say quakes of this magnitude are common in the region and typically cause only light shaking.
Authorities and local services did not issue any emergency warnings following the event; monitoring of seismic activity in the area continues.
