Earthquake of 4.7 Hits Naples and Surroundings — Eight Slightly Injured

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale struck southern Italy on Friday evening, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported.

The epicenter was 13 kilometers west of Naples. So far eight people have been reported injured, but none are in serious condition.

Most extensive damage in Pozzuoli

The greatest material damage was recorded in Pozzuoli, near Naples, where part of a retaining wall collapsed. Large blocks fell onto several parked cars and damaged them.

Fortunately, there are no fatalities or injuries from the collapse. Emergency teams are inspecting the hardest-hit area and assessing whether there are additional risks to the buildings.

Local authorities have urged residents to follow safety instructions and to report damage to structures. Seismologists are monitoring the area for possible aftershocks following the main shock.
