Woman from Debreshe charged after partner in Kosovo sent €18,000 over alleged fake pregnancy

A 33-year-old woman from the village of Debreshe in the Gostivar area has been criminally charged after allegedly convincing her partner in Kosovo that she was pregnant and that the child was his, then receiving repeated money transfers that totalled €18,000.

The Tetovo Police Department (SVR Tetovo) filed a criminal complaint against E.R. (33) from Debreshe on suspicion of the offence of fraud, police records show.

According to the police bulletin, the suspect told her partner during their communications that she was expecting a child and implied he was the father. The man believed her claims and in the following period sent money several times via fast transfer services.

Admission and legal steps

Police say the total amount the woman obtained in this way reached €18,000. After the story was uncovered, the 33-year-old reportedly admitted to having misled her partner about the pregnancy and paternity in order to persuade him to continue sending funds.

The authorities stated that, following the filing of the complaint and the measures taken, SVR Tetovo submitted charges for fraud. Investigators will now establish the full circumstances, including the content of the communications between the two, the period during which money was sent and the transactions used to transfer the €18,000.

This is a criminal complaint and an allegation at this stage; the final legal responsibility of the person charged will be determined in further proceedings before the competent authorities.
