Manager Jorge Jesus included Cristiano Ronaldo in his first Portugal squad; the team opens the Nations League at home vs Wales on 24 September.
Jorge Jesus has named Cristiano Ronaldo in his first Portugal squad as manager, confirming the veteran forward will be part of the team for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.
Ronaldo previously said that the World Cup this year would be his last, but he has not announced a date for his retirement from international football.
Match schedule and context
Jesus took over the national team following the departure of Spanish coach Roberto Martínez, after Portugal’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup round of 16. His appointment reunites him with a player he worked with at club level.
Before joining Portugal, Jesus had been the head coach at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he and Ronaldo won the domestic title together last season.
Portugal begin their Nations League campaign at home against Wales on 24 September. Three days later they travel to face Norway, then play in Denmark on 1 October, and return home to host Norway on 4 October.
