Resident reports man dumped a trailer‑load of rubbish into Markova River

Residents of the village of Markova Sushica alerted local authorities after an eyewitness reported that a man dumped an entire trailer-load of rubbish into the Markova River yesterday at around 17:00. Neighbours say the practice harms the environment and the landscape of the area.

The witness says he saw a vehicle with a trailer full of sacks of rubbish stop at the riverbank and the driver begin throwing the sacks into the water one by one.

"After I approached him and raised my phone to photograph, he made a 'like' gesture with his finger and continued throwing the sacks," said our source, who sent a photo documenting what he witnessed.

Calls for sanctions and cleanup

According to residents, the same person then nonchalantly emptied the remaining rubbish from the trailer into the Markova River. Locals also reported a previous case in which another individual reportedly dumped three to four dead goats in the river — carcasses that, under the current high temperatures, could cause infection.

Several residents have appealed to the Environmental Inspectorate to investigate and sanction those responsible for repeatedly polluting the Markova River. They say the river is being damaged and that swift action is needed to prevent further environmental harm.

People in the area provided photographs to document the incidents and urged authorities to increase monitoring, remove the dumped waste and hold offenders accountable.
