Jorge Jesus includes Cristiano Ronaldo in preliminary Portugal squad for November

Portugal coach Jorge Jesus has placed Cristiano Ronaldo on a preliminary squad list for the November Nations League fixtures, opening the possibility that the 41-year-old Al Nassr forward will return to the national team.

Ronaldo had earlier left the Portugal camp after a dispute with the coach — a conflict that followed his being kept on the bench during the 2:1 win over Norway. He did not remain with the squad until the end of the gathering and departed the team on his own.

Disciplinary measures and the path to November

Following his exit from the camp, Portugal’s captain was handed a one-month suspension and a fine of €255 for abandoning the national team. The disciplinary sanction, however, is not expected to prevent him from featuring in the upcoming matches.

Portugal will play Denmark on 14 November and face Wales three days later, on 17 November. Whether Ronaldo will be included in the final roster depends on the list that Jorge Jesus announces ahead of those fixtures.

For now, Ronaldo’s presence on the preliminary list leaves open the possibility of reconciliation between the player and the coach ahead of the November Nations League double-header.
