Alexander Zverev advances to US Open quarterfinals in straight sets
Zverev defeated Luciano Darderi 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7/3) at Arthur Ashe Stadium and will meet Botic van de Zandschulp.

September 8, 2026 — Alexander Zverev reached the US Open quarterfinals with a straight-sets win, defeating Luciano Darderi 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7/3) on Arthur Ashe Stadium's centre court.
Unlike his two previous matches at the tournament, which went the distance, the 29-year-old Roland Garros champion dominated from the outset. Zverev produced two early breaks in each of the first two sets to build a commanding lead and control the tempo of the match.
Darderi, the No. 21 seed, mounted a more sustained challenge in the third set: he saved four break points and forced a tiebreak, but Zverev’s steadier serving closed out the match 7-3 in the breaker.
Next opponent and form
With the victory, Zverev extends a strong run at Flushing Meadows and will face Dutch veteran Botic van de Zandschulp in the quarterfinals. Van de Zandschulp reached this stage after a five-set win over Frenchman Artur Gea.
Zverev’s efficient start and reliable serve under pressure marked the difference on the Arthur Ashe court, setting up what promises to be a high-stakes quarterfinal at the US Open.
