174 screened at City Square — 39% have stroke risk factors; 74-year-old hospitalized
Screening found elevated blood pressure, diabetes and high blood lipids in a large share of participants; carotid checks led to an urgent hospital admission.

A preventive health campaign at the City Square screened 174 citizens, and medical teams found that 39% showed one or more stroke risk factors — specifically elevated blood pressure, diabetes and high blood lipids.
Teams from the Neurology Clinic also performed ultrasound checks of the carotid arteries yesterday to detect changes that can raise the chance of a stroke. These scans were part of the same outreach effort on the square.
In total 160 people received carotid examinations, and roughly 40% of those showed a notable finding. One person in particular, a 74-year-old patient judged to be at high immediate risk of stroke, was admitted to hospital without delay.
Further follow-up and next steps
The organisers said citizens with detected abnormalities will be contacted and invited for additional testing and clinical follow-up. The aim is to ensure timely medical intervention and reduce the likelihood of acute events.
Health professionals stressed that community screenings can uncover previously unrecognised conditions and urged residents to take part in preventive examinations when offered.
