Published: 17 August 2026, 09:53 — In the past 24 hours North Macedonia recorded 25 wildfires in open areas; four remain active, three are under control and 18 have been extinguished, the Center for Crisis Management reported.

Four active hotspots, several areas affected

The active fires are burning along the Morane – Vrtekica – Ramni Gaber stretch in the Municipality of Studenichani, where mixed forest is involved, and near Vidush, Dragov Dol and Lokvica in the Municipality of Makedonski Brod, where low vegetation, low-stem forest and shrubs are ablaze.

Blaze activity is also ongoing around the village of S'lp in the Veles area, spreading toward Karabunjishte, Dobrino and Tisovica in the Municipality of Zelenikovo. Another active front is reported near Kopance and Tudence in Jegunovce, with the fire advancing toward Bojane in the Municipality of Saraj.

Two fires in the Krushevo area are now under control — on the Aldanci – Norovo and Borino – Zitoshe routes — and the landfill fire in Kratovo has also been brought under control.

According to the Center for Crisis Management's latest tally, the majority of the recorded outbreaks — 18 in total — have been fully extinguished.

Authorities continue to monitor the active fronts and coordinate firefighting resources; residents in nearby settlements have been warned to remain vigilant as crews work to prevent further spread.
