84-year-old Serbian woman drowns on Hanioti beach, rescuers unable to save her
An 84-year-old Serbian citizen suffered cardiac arrest after drowning on Hanioti’s central beach; lifeguards and emergency crews attempted resuscitation.
An 84-year-old Serbian woman drowned on the central beach of Hanioti in Chalkidiki, and rescuers were unable to save her life.
The woman, a citizen of Serbia, lost consciousness after going into the sea at the resort town's main beach. Medical reports indicate she suffered cardiac arrest following the drowning.
Immediate response and resuscitation attempts
Two beach lifeguards reacted immediately and started emergency procedures on the spot. They performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), used a defibrillator and administered medical oxygen.
A volunteer rescuer, Ioannis Kolokitas, arrived shortly afterwards, and a team from EKAB (Greek National Emergency Medical Service) was also dispatched to the scene.
Despite all available resuscitation measures and the efforts of lifeguards and emergency personnel, the woman could not be revived and was pronounced dead.
