Afrim Gashi: Support for convicted KLA leaders is a personal stance
Assembly president says he has a private political opinion despite his office and urged MPs to form the Kočani inquiry commission.
Afrim Gashi, president of the Assembly, defended his recent public support for convicted former Kosovo leader Hashim Thaçi and other leaders of the KLA as a personal position, not an institutional one.
Gashi said that, despite holding the Assembly presidency, he retains the right to a private opinion and to speak as a citizen and a politician on particular events or issues independent of the office he occupies.
He explained that this personal right is the reason he felt obliged to express his view on the matter.
Call to MPs on the Kočani inquiry
Separately, Gashi urged all members of parliament to take a step toward the final formation of the inquiry commission for Kočani, pressing for progress on the parliamentary procedure.
The statement frames Gashi’s backing of the convicted KLA figures as an individual stance while he continues to perform his official duties as Assembly president.
