Ahmeti reiterates commitment to full implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement

Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), met today at the party headquarters in Tetovo with Acting United States Ambassador to the Republic of North Macedonia, Her Excellency Nicole Warns. The meeting focused on bilateral partnership, the state of domestic politics and the implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement.

Topics and tone of the meeting

After the meeting Ahmeti said the conversation took place in an open and constructive atmosphere and stressed the need to strengthen democratic institutions. He singled out the long-standing role of the United States in supporting political compromises that helped stabilise the country after the 2001 conflict.

“I expressed my gratitude to Ms. Warns for her dedicated and constructive engagement, as well as for the contribution to strengthening the partnership between the United States and the Republic of North Macedonia. In an open and constructive atmosphere we exchanged views on current political events in the country and on the importance of strengthening democratic institutions,” Ahmeti said after the meeting.

Ahmeti underlined that American backing was decisive for reaching the Ohrid Framework Agreement and remains essential for preserving its spirit, promoting equality and reinforcing social cohesion. He and the ambassador also discussed the broader Euro‑Atlantic path of the country.

“We reaffirmed our firm commitment to the strategic partnership with the United States, the full implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement and the country's unwavering European orientation,” Ahmeti added.

The meeting in Tetovo brought together senior DUI officials and the acting ambassador; both sides stressed continuity of cooperation and the importance of implementing existing agreements as a basis for social stability and interethnic dialogue.
