England forward Ivan Toney has been charged over an assault that allegedly took place outside a nightclub in central London and is due to appear in court on 24 September.
The incident is reported to have happened on 6 December 2025 in Soho. Toney, who plays in Saudi Arabia for Al Ahli, returned home after the World Cup and now faces a criminal charge described as causing physical injury to a person.
In a brief statement sent to English media the player said: "Ivan Toney is aware of the charge, and while he is of course shocked, he will seek to clear his name in court."
Legal past and immediate context
This will not be Toney's first time dealing with the courts: he has previously faced accusations related to illegal betting on multiple occasions. The new charge adds to a series of off-field incidents that have followed the striker during his professional career.
Sportingly, Toney started England's third-place match at the World Cup — his tenth appearance for the national team. His inclusion in the squad by coach Thomas Tuchel came as something of a surprise, given he has been playing in Saudi Arabia since 2024.
Since moving to Al Ahli he has registered 55 goals in 62 appearances. Toney's rise began in his hometown of Northampton; after failing to break into Newcastle's first team he moved on to Peterborough, with loan spells at Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe and Wigan helping him rebuild his career before a transfer to Brentford and ultimately the England squad.
