Fires active near Makedonski Brod and Kumanovo; Delchevo landfill under control
In the 24 hours until 7:30 a.m. authorities recorded 23 open‑area fires; two remain active and the Delchevo landfill blaze is under control.
The Center for Crisis Management reported that, in the 24 hours up to 7:30 a.m. today, authorities recorded a total of 23 fires in open areas: 2 remain active, 1 is under control and 20 have been extinguished.
Firefighters say low vegetation, low-stemmed forest and scrub are burning near Makedonski Brod — around the hamlet of Vidush close to the village of Dragov Dol. At the same time there is an active blaze in the Municipality of Kumanovo, in the Sredorek neighbourhood, where burning garbage has been observed.
According to the Center for Crisis Management, the fire at the city landfill in Delchevo has been brought under control and is no longer spreading.
Pressure remains on crews as summer fires continue
The report notes that in July there were 15 fires per day across the country, a rate that emergency services say increases the strain on local firefighting resources during the hot season.
Angelov has appealed to citizens to refrain from lighting open fires or using grills in forests and other vegetated areas, stressing that careless behaviour elevates the risk of new outbreaks.
Teams from municipal fire brigades and crisis services continue to monitor the affected locations; authorities said crews remain ready to respond should any of the active or controlled fires flare up again.
