Albania battles 21 wildfires in 24 hours; 11 still active
Defense Ministry reports hundreds of crews, army personnel and air support fighting blazes; worst-affected districts include Fier, Shkodra, Mat and Dajt.
Albania reported 21 separate fires in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Defence said, with 11 of those still active, five under control and five already extinguished.
Authorities warned that the situation remained serious in several districts and that operations to contain the blazes were ongoing across multiple fronts.
"Hundreds of operational crews, firefighting vehicles and personnel of the armed forces are engaged on the ground, while the operations are supported by helicopters and aircraft to extinguish the flames. The situation is particularly problematic in some areas of Fier, Shkodra, Mat and Dajt," the ministry said.
Resources and scope of the response
According to the ministry's figures, firefighting efforts involved 587 local operational personnel and 52 firefighting vehicles, supported by 550 members of the army and seven army firefighting vehicles.
Air support was provided by four helicopters and one Air Tractor aircraft. Officials said crews were prioritizing the most affected zones while attempting to prevent new outbreaks.
