Aleksandar Vučić voted in New Belgrade and told Croatian media to stop interfering

Aleksandar Vučić voted today at a polling station in New Belgrade and used remarks to criticize Croatian media, saying they should stop interfering in Serbia's internal affairs.

After casting his ballot alongside his wife, Tamara Vučić, the leader of the list "Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia" told reporters he would accept the will of the voters if his list lost and vowed that, if they win, their victory will not be taken from them.

"I hope the elections will pass peacefully, just as is the case at this polling station. I believe that tonight we will have the democratic will of the citizens. In elections you can win or lose. We will always act responsibly. If we lose, to recognize the will of the voters, if we win, no one will take it away from us," he said after voting.

Criticism of Croatian media

Answering questions from journalists about relations with Croatia and whether he would change his rhetoric, Vučić said he hopes the two countries will have better ties, but warned that Zagreb should stop interfering in Serbia's electoral process.

He addressed Croatian media directly: "For that, you should interfere less in our electoral processes and in our internal political circumstances. For that, you should insult Serbia less every day. You should show greater respect for our country, and then we will always show respect for your country. Wait, Croats, these are Serbian, and not Croatian elections. Be patient, I know you care," he said.

When pressed for concrete examples or proof of interference, Vučić said proof was not necessary because "it is enough to open any of your newspapers, any of your portals or to watch any of your television stations. From insults, lies, the most senseless, worse than those uttered by N1 and Nova S, to direct interference in the campaign in every possible way. So, if you don't see that, then you have some other problem, and that is not connected with evidence, but with whether you can see well and whether you can read," he added.

Serbia is holding early parliamentary elections today to choose 250 members of parliament. Polling stations are open until 20:00.
