Anticyclone brings dry, mostly sunny week to North Macedonia; frost possible in mountains

An anticyclone will keep North Macedonia under dry and mostly sunny conditions during the coming week, with only small to moderate local cloud development and isolated, short-lived rain possible in a few places, meteorologist Slavcho Poposki said.

"A light to moderate wind will blow mainly from the north and from the northeast, and it will occasionally strengthen in intensity," Poposki said, warning that gusts may pick up at times.

Conditions in Skopje and its surroundings are expected to mirror the national picture: stable, dry and mostly sunny with only limited cloudiness. "A light to moderate wind will blow mainly from the north, and it will occasionally strengthen in intensity," Poposki added.

Temperatures and risk of morning frost

Temperatures will run a little below the seasonal average. Morning lows across the country are likely to fall between 4 and 12 degrees Celsius, while in higher settlements and mountainous areas they may drop near 0°C, creating conditions for light morning frost and hoarfrost.

"Maximum daytime temperatures until Thursday (October 1) will rise in the range of 17 to 25 degrees and afterwards they will be slightly lower, rising in the range of 15 to 22 degrees. In Skopje and the surrounding area, morning temperatures will drop to between 7 and 9 degrees, and the maximum temperature will rise between 22 and 24 degrees," he said.

Overall, the anticyclonic pattern will favor stable weather, but residents in exposed high-altitude locations should prepare for chilly mornings and possible light frost; brief local showers cannot be fully ruled out where cloudiness increases.
