Borche Markovski has returned to North Macedonia, lawyer says
Lawyer Marjan Nikoloski says the trip was necessary and that the case was handled according to law.
Bitola businessman Borche Markovski, accused of tender abuse at REK "Bitola", has returned to North Macedonia, his lawyer Marjan Nikoloski told TV 24. Nikoloski said the trip was necessary, without providing additional operational details.
To Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, who announced an investigation into the situation, the lawyer said that "everything in the case is lawful".
Three days ago media reported that the Basic Court in Struga had returned his passport after Markovski submitted a guarantee of five million euros, and then he left North Macedonia and entered Serbia via the Tabanovce border crossing.
Charges and frozen assets
Markovski is accused of tender abuse at REK "Bitola". He is also the honorary consul of Belarus in North Macedonia and, as his representatives noted, owns companies and other property in Serbia.
A freezing measure has been placed on Markovski's assets: cargo vehicles and a safe in Belgrade, accounts in North Macedonia, apartments and land in Skopje.
The only confirmation of his return so far has come from his lawyer; the prosecutor's offices and the courts continue proceedings and have so far not provided additional public information regarding the lawyer's statements.
