Total solar eclipse filmed by member of the Skopje Astronomical Society in Spain

A short video showing the total solar eclipse that crossed parts of Spain on 12.8.2026 was captured by Milan Lazić, a member of the Skopje Astronomical Society who travelled to Spain to witness the rare event.

The recording, made by Lazić while positioned inside the eclipse’s path, documents the momentary darkening of the sky and the appearance of the solar corona. The team from Skopje had planned the trip specifically to observe the total phase of the eclipse.

Members of the Skopje Astronomical Society said the journey combined field observation with technical tests of their imaging equipment. The video shows the rapid changes in light and atmosphere that accompany totality and will be used by the society for outreach and study.

Observers who travel to a path of totality often face a narrow window of time to record the phenomenon; teams bring calibrated cameras, filters and tripods to capture both the brief total phase and the surrounding partial phases. Lazić’s footage contributes to a growing catalogue of amateur and professional recordings from the 12.8.2026 eclipse.

The Skopje Astronomical Society intends to screen selected clips from the trip at upcoming public events and to share still images from their archive. The recording is an example of how small national astronomy groups join international efforts to document transient celestial events.
