Montenegro registered 264,480 tourist arrivals and 1.13 million overnight stays in collective accommodation in August 2026, the national statistics office reported in a press release published on October 5, 2026.

According to the release, the bulk of overnight stays were recorded among foreign visitors. "Foreign tourists accounted for 91.4 percent of overnight stays in collective accommodation, and domestic tourists for 8.6 percent," the Statistical Office of Montenegro (Monstat) said.

Coastal resorts dominated demand

By type of destination, coastal resorts led overwhelmingly with 92.1 percent of overnight stays in August, followed by the capital with 3.6 percent, mountain resorts with 2.8 percent and other destinations with 1.5 percent.

Monstat’s definition of collective accommodation covers hotels, boarding houses, motels, tourist resorts, hostels and camps. The figures do not include individual or private lodging such as houses and rooms for rent, nor tourist apartments.

The data underline the continued reliance of Montenegro’s tourism sector on foreign demand and on the coastal strip, as the country recorded more than one million overnight stays in a single summer month.
