CCM: 37 wildfires in the last 24 hours, three still active

The Center for Crisis Management (CCM) reported that 37 wildfires were registered across the country during the last 24 hours, counted up to 7:30 a.m. this morning. Of those incidents, three remain active, one is under control and the other 33 have been extinguished.

Major blazes and response

One of the active fires is near the village of Chanishta in the Prilep area. Yesterday afternoon that fire split into two fronts — one moving toward the village of Zović and the other toward the village of Krushevica — and it consumed low vegetation along its path. The Directorate for Protection and Rescue reported that the fire front stretched several kilometres between the two villages, prompting the deployment of numerous firefighting units from several towns.

Additional active fires were recorded in the municipality of Studenichani on the stretch between the villages of Morane, Vrtekica and Ramni Gaber, where mixed forest is burning, and near the location Vidush and the villages Dragov Dol and Lokvica in the municipality of Macedonski Brod. In those areas the flames have affected low vegetation, low-stem forest and shrubs.

The fire at the Delchevo landfill, which has been burning for several days, was reported this morning as placed under control by the CCM.

From the fires that have been extinguished: two were on the territory of Gjorce Petrov municipality, two in the Saraj region, two in Shtip, three each in Dolneni, Kichevo and Gostivar, and one each in Aerodrom, Aracinovo, Mogila, Novaci, Radovish, Strumica and Caska, as well as fires that had been on the territory of Veles and Zelenikovo.

Firefighting teams also managed to put out blazes in Vinica, Kocani, Lipkovo, Kratovo, Staro Nagorichane, Rankovce, Brvenica, Tetovo and Jegunovce — the latter having expanded into the Skopje region and affected part of the municipality of Saraj.
