11‑year‑old hands in found envelope during school trip — classmates end up at police station
An 11‑year‑old pupil found a wallet‑style envelope on a school trip in Trogir, handed the cash to his teacher and police, and attracted praise from local authorities and his family.

On a school field trip two years ago an 11-year-old boy from Trogir became the centre of attention after finding an envelope of cash and handing it to his teacher — a decision that ended with the whole class at a police station and months of praise for the pupil.
Honesty on a UNESCO visit
Daniel Divkovic was a fourth‑grader at Majstor Radovan Elementary School when, during a guided walk through the UNESCO‑protected old town of Trogir, he stepped on an object near a small stone bridge and discovered an envelope full of money. He gave it to his teacher, who handed it immediately to the police, and the Split‑Dalmatia Police later singled out the boy’s act in their daily report.
Some early headlines described the envelope as containing euros, while the police account noted the banknotes were Japanese yen; either way, Daniel and his classmates ended up at the station so the officers could take statements and try to find the owner.
“We were walking back to the school when I stepped on something near the little stone bridge and slipped. When I looked down I saw the envelope and the money fell out. At the same time I called the teacher who decided to hand the found money over to the police, so instead of returning to class we all ended up there,” Daniel recalled at the time, smiling broadly.
He later described the police interview with a young officer who questioned them carefully and compared the experience to watching television detective stories: “It reminded me of the series ‘Novak’ which I adore and watch on Netflix with great pleasure,” he said.
Daniel’s parents, Antonija and Roberto, and the wider family celebrated his choice. His father, who was at sea at the time, called and told him, “Son, I am proud of you.” Grandmothers Nevenka and Mara and grandfathers Jerko and Nikola were moved to tears, while Daniel’s five‑year‑old brother Ivan was already being told by the family that he should grow up to be honest and kind like his brother.
