Dejan Šoškić: Corrupt-criminal system in Serbia will collapse 'like a house of cards'

Dejan Šoškić, a candidate on the Student List, former governor of the National Bank of Serbia and a name floated as a possible prime minister or minister in the incoming government, said he expects the corrupt-criminal network embedded in the state to collapse "like a house of cards." He called for measured legal procedure and an easing of public tensions. ([rts.rs](https://www.rts.rs/vesti/politika/6073368/dejan-soskic-unistavanje-dokumentacije-korupcija.html?utm_source=openai))

"It's time for procedure, for respect of the laws, for calming the tensions," Šoškić said, urging that state employees refuse unlawful orders and that professionals — including the prosecution — be given the space to do their work. He added that their prior conduct can be examined later within proper proceedings. Security checks, transparency and restraint

Speaking about the construction built for the Expo, Šoškić demanded checks of the structural safety of the completed buildings, publication of the contracts and, where justified, criminal inquiries into responsibility. He also warned that many posts on social media have been exaggerated and asked citizens not to spread unfounded fear. On the same day Šoškić spoke, two senior police officials were detained in connection with the so-called "Senjak" case: Marko Kričak, head of the Criminal Police Directorate, and Boško Sekulović, head of the Service for Combating Crime. The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade charged them with abuse of office; prosecutors additionally say Kričak faces accusations of torture and ill-treatment. The chief prosecutor said the pre-investigative actions in the case began in May and that the detentions are not connected to the recent election results, underlining that the prosecution's work followed legal procedures. Both men were ordered held for up to 48 hours pending further questioning. Separately, on 30 October the National Bank of Serbia revoked the operating licence of Alta Banka and placed its management under the Deposit Insurance Agency; prosecutors for organised crime asked for an urgent examination of the bank's operations, possible transfers of funds abroad and the conduct of responsible persons at the central bank. The fate of Governor Jorgovanka Tabaković has become a subject of public and political debate following those steps.
