Dejan Jovanov offers property worth about €200,000 as guarantee to leave detention
Owner of the Pulse nightclub in Kochani proposed his real estate and additional family assets as security so he can defend himself from freedom.
Dejan Jovanov — known as Deko and the owner of the Pulse nightclub in Kochani — has offered real estate valued at about €200,000 as a guarantee that he will remain available to the court if his detention is lifted, his legal team has said.
The property put forward covers all real estate registered in Jovanov’s name, and the proposal also includes additional assets owned by a member of his family, according to the information received by the court.
Defence lawyers argue that the offered property should be sufficient to allow Jovanov to continue his defence from freedom while remaining obliged to appear for procedural acts. His attorney, Ivana Kocevska, announced that the proposal will pair the property guarantee with additional precautionary measures aimed at securing the defendant’s presence during the process.
Next steps in the detention review
Jovanov’s detention is scheduled to expire on October 3, when it will mark one year since it began. The competent court must decide whether the roughly €200,000 guarantee together with any extra measures is enough to order his release; until that decision is handed down he remains in custody.
Jovanov stands as the first accused in the criminal proceedings over the catastrophic fire at the Pulse nightclub in Kochani on March 16, 2025, a blaze that claimed 63 lives and wounded more than 200 people. The trial continues as the court examines evidence and seeks to establish the individual responsibility of the defendants for the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
The case has attracted wide public attention and the court’s next rulings on detention and precautionary measures are likely to be closely watched.
