Six candidate lists submitted for Brvenica mayoral by-election, SEC says

The deadline to submit candidate lists for the early mayoral election in the Municipality of Brvenica closed at midnight, the State Election Commission (SEC) announced on September 13, 2026.

The SEC said a total of six lists were filed: four submitted by coalitions and two by groups of voters. The filings name six mayoral candidates who will appear on the ballot later this autumn.

“For the early mayoral elections in the Municipality of Brvenica, a total of 6 candidate lists were submitted, of which four lists were submitted by coalitions and two lists by groups of voters: Candidate Jovica Radeski is the candidate for mayor of the Coalition for Early Mayoral Elections for the Municipality of Brvenica 2026 led by SDSM - Social Democratic Union of Macedonia-SDSM, New Social Democratic Party- NSDP, Party of Democratic Action of Macedonia and Party for Democratic Prosperity of the Roma-PDPR, Desnica; Jakup Useini - candidate of COALITION VREDI/VLEN; Stojancho Radicheski - candidate of COALITION 'TVOJA MAKEDONIJA'; Arkin Jahiji - candidate of NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR INTEGRATION - NAI; Arife Idrizi - candidate of GROUP OF VOTERS - ARIFE IDRIZI and Dushan Bogdanovski candidate of group of voters DUSHAN BOGDANOVSKI,” the State Election Commission said.

The SEC did not disclose additional details about list ordering or the number of signatures attached to the citizen groups in its brief notice.

President of the Assembly Afrim Gashi scheduled the by-election for October 18, 2026, following the death of Brvenica’s mayor Ivica Ilievski on June 23, 2026, at the age of 58. The early vote will determine who completes the remainder of the mayoral term.

Campaigning and the precise timetable for receiving and verifying candidate documentation now move to the next administrative phase as the electoral bodies prepare for the October date.
