Giant pastrmalija in Veles reaches 4.4 metres
Sold at a charity event and eaten in 12 minutes, the 4.4-metre pastrmalija raised 15,400 denars for food packages.

The giant pastrmalija prepared in Veles reached 4.4 metres and was consumed within minutes during a charity sale organized in the town.
The flatbread, which required six hours of preparation, was eaten in just 12 minutes. Volunteers from the Municipal Organization of the Red Cross in Veles collected 15,400 denars from the sale — more than last year’s 12,000 denars but below the record 16,000 denars raised two years ago.
Funds to buy food packages
The money will be used to purchase food packages for the Week of the Fight against Hunger, which is observed from Monday. The sale was part of that humanitarian effort and was run by local Red Cross volunteers.
The giant pastrmalija has been donated for years by the Gemidzhii bakery and, according to tradition, grows larger each year. Organizers said the pita’s size and the quick interest from residents underlined strong community support for the charity drive.
