VAT on diesel extended to October 20, finance minister says

The finance minister, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, announced that the reduced VAT rate for diesel will be extended until October 20. The measure lowers VAT on diesel from 18% to 10% and was prolonged to cover an additional eight days beyond the previous deadline.

The government decision follows an earlier extension that was set to expire on October 12; the new end date of October 20 gives businesses and drivers continued relief at the pump.

Minister’s explanation

"With this measure we influence retail fuel prices and mitigate external price pressures, in order to reduce the financial burden on citizens and the economy. We continue to carefully monitor conditions on international markets and respond in time with measures that contribute to protecting living standards and economic stability," wrote the finance minister on Facebook.

The extension is part of a package of support measures whose fiscal effects were reflected in the budget rebalance adopted by the Government on October 7. Officials say the rebalance incorporates the impact of reductions in both excise duties and VAT on fuels.

Authorities emphasised they will keep tracking developments on international markets and may adjust policies as needed to shield households and companies from volatile energy prices.
