Popular Macedonian folk singer and soloist with the ensemble Tanec, Dragan Nikolovski-Dace, has released a new music video for the song "Merak zhivot, balkanski." The clip pairs traditional motifs with a modern, urban visual style aimed at connecting older listeners with younger generations.
Visual story across a lifetime
The video follows a young couple from their first childhood meeting through youthful romance and into old age, framing love, friendship and Macedonian tradition as a continuous, life-long story. The production updates customary elements so they resonate in a contemporary setting.
Outside his public projects, Nikolovski-Dace has built a long marriage with his wife, Ljupka; the couple recently celebrated another wedding anniversary. Family life remains his primary source of energy and comfort between tours and ensemble duties.
About balancing work and home, he has been candid: "Balance is not simple, but if the partner has understanding and patience, everything is easier. The smile and the embrace of my wife when she opens the door for me in the late hours returning from a performance are priceless to me," the musician said on one occasion.
The couple are parents to two sons, Mihail and Kiril, who are already following musical paths. Both study at DMBUC "Ilija Nikolovski - Luj": Mihail plays guitar and has won awards, while younger Kiril studies violin and enjoys singing.
Dragan Nikolovski-Dace began performing at age 16 and later became known as a vocal soloist with the group Akademci. The new song "Merak zhivot, balkanski" is among the tracks intended for his first solo album, underscoring his ongoing role as a keeper of Macedonian folk and chalga repertoire.
