Drone entered Moldova and exploded near Talmaza village

A drone entered Moldovan airspace yesterday and exploded in a field near the village of Talmaza, close to the border with Ukraine, authorities reported. The blast occurred roughly three kilometres from the village and ignited nearby vegetation; there were no injuries or fatalities.

Police cordoned off the scene while emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire and assess the circumstances. Initial information indicates the explosion happened after an unidentified aerial vehicle fell to the ground.

Official timeline and response

The Ministry of Defense said the National Army’s air-surveillance systems detected an object entering Moldovan airspace from the direction of Kuchurgan–Tiraspol at 17:37. As a precaution, the authorities closed the airspace over the central sector for 15 minutes. According to first reports, the object disappeared from radar near Talmaza in the Ștefan Vodă area.

Specialists from the police technical-explosive unit were dispatched to examine the wreckage and determine the origin of the craft. Officials urged residents not to approach the site or handle any suspicious items they might find.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the incursion. "This incident constitutes a serious violation of the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova and constitutes a direct risk to the security of our citizens. Such incidents are unacceptable," the ministry said.

Moldova, which borders Ukraine and supports that country in the war with Russia, has previously reported several drone incidents and has repeatedly found aircraft debris near its border areas.
