DUI: Removal of Albanian from Tabanovce state sign is a direct violation of the Constitution

The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) issued sharp criticism after reports that the Albanian language was removed from a state sign at the Tabanovce border crossing. The party says the move violates the Law on the Use of Languages and the state's constitutional obligations.

DUI described the action as "a serious provocation" and directly blamed the Vredi coalition for failing to protect the basic rights of ethnic Albanians, calling on the authorities to correct the measure immediately.

"We demand that the Albanian language be immediately restored on state signs, and that the competent institutions publicly apologize for this violation. Vredi bears direct responsibility for this. Instead of preventing the degradation of the Albanian language, they invent empty excuses and try to deceive citizens with manipulative videos," the party statement said.

Party reminder on legal status of Albanian

In its reaction, DUI reiterated that Albanian is an official language in the country and that its use on public signage is a legal obligation. The party characterized the episode as "a shame for the subservience" of the Albanian factor within the authorities.

DUI demanded that the Albanian inscription be returned to the state sign at Tabanovce and asked the responsible institutions to issue a public apology. The party said Vredi must answer for the incident and warned that attempts to justify the removal will not be accepted by citizens.
