Two police officers face criminal complaint and suspension over excessive force in Struga
Ministry of Interior's internal control department filed charges under Article 143 of the Criminal Code against T.M. and I.Š.; disciplinary measures and weapon removal proposed.
The Ministry of Interior's Department for Internal Control, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards filed a criminal complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office GOKK – the Specialized Department for Prosecution of Criminal Offences Committed by Persons with Police Powers and Prison Police members, against two police officers, identified as T.M. and I.Š.
They are accused of the criminal offence "maltreatment in the performance of duty" under Article 143 of the Criminal Code.
According to the complaint, the first suspect, T.M., a police officer at the Struga Police Station, and the second suspect, I.Š., described as the chief police officer responsible for conducting traffic-accident inspections, used excessive physical force on May 14, 2026, inside the premises of the Struga Police Station while escorting a person who had previously been deprived of liberty.
Details of the alleged assault and planned disciplinary measures
The complaint states that, despite the person being handcuffed, the two officers physically attacked him and struck him with hands and feet.
In parallel with the criminal complaint, the Department for Internal Control will propose disciplinary proceedings against both officers. It will also impose mandatory precautionary measures including the removal of their service weapons and ammunition and suspension from their posts until the disciplinary procedure is completed.
The case is now in the hands of the Specialized Department of the Public Prosecutor's Office (GOKK), which will determine whether to pursue criminal charges under Article 143 of the Criminal Code.
