Serbian citizen fined €1,500 twice after driving over 160 km/h near Demir Kapija

A Serbian citizen, identified as D. P. (34), received two monetary penalties of €1,500 each after being convicted of the criminal offence Reckless driving of a motor vehicle, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Kavadarci announced. The sentence was handed down by the Basic Court in Negotino after the man was arrested while leaving the country at the Tabanovce border crossing on the night of Saturday, August 29.

According to the court records, the offences were registered by the city's traffic monitoring system while D. P. was returning from a holiday in Greece and driving on the A1 motorway near Demir Kapija.

How the violations were detected

"On August 29 at 23:20, at the Tabanovce Border Crossing, upon exit from the country, police officers deprived D. P. (34) from the Republic of Serbia of his liberty, after, during an inspection of a passenger vehicle 'Škoda' with Serbian national plates, driven by him, it was established via the 'Safe City' system that on two occasions he had been recorded as the perpetrator of a criminal offense under Article 297-a of the Criminal Code – Reckless driving of a motor vehicle. He committed the offense on August 22 this year, at 13:42, on the A1 motorway near Demir Kapija, D.P. drove the vehicle at a speed of 163 kilometres per hour, and on August 20, at 19:40, on the same section, again drove at a speed of 169 kilometres per hour. In both cases at locations where the maximum permitted speed is 80 kilometres per hour," said Ana Milevska-Đorġieva, spokeswoman of SVR Veles.

The records show the two speed readings — 163 km/h on August 22 at 13:42 and 169 km/h on August 20 at 19:40 — were captured on stretches where the legal speed limit is 80 km/h. Both instances formed the basis for the criminal charges under Article 297-a of the Criminal Code.

The Basic Court in Negotino imposed two separate fines of €1,500 each. The man was detained at the Tabanovce crossing on August 29 at 23:20 after police checked the Škoda with Serbian plates and matched the vehicle to the recorded violations.
