One month after the storm: fallen trees still litter Skopje

One month after the storm that hit Skopje on 19 July, fallen trees still remain across the city — many lying uprooted, others sawn into sections but not removed.

The heaviest damage was recorded in Karpoš Municipality, where several locations still show uprooted trunks and broken branches. Fallen trees also remain in green areas in Aerodrom Municipality, in the Park of Journalists in Centar Municipality, and in the City Park.

City reports removals, municipalities hold local responsibility

The City of Skopje says that the majority of fallen trees on the city territory — 278 in total — have been removed and transported.

Local authorities emphasise that municipalities are responsible for clearing trees from parks and streets that fall within their jurisdiction, and that removal from those areas is a municipal duty.

Residents and park users have reported seeing cut trunks and branches left at the sites for weeks after the storm, raising questions about the pace of cleanup in some neighbourhoods.
