EU donates 26 specialized vehicles and €4 million in equipment to North Macedonia Customs
The package was presented at the Tabanovce border terminal; vehicles will go to the mobile unit and K-9, while IT upgrades link to the central server room.
The European Union has provided 26 specialized vehicles and forensic and IT equipment worth €4 million to the Customs Administration of North Macedonia, a package presented today at the Tabanovce border terminal aimed at strengthening capacity to fight organized crime.
The donation includes 26 specially equipped vehicles financed by the EU together with upgraded forensic tools and IT hardware destined for customs operations. Authorities showcased the new assets at the Tabanovce crossing.
Customs Director Boban Nikolovski said the modernization will not only increase controls at border points but also streamline procedures and bring significant benefits to legitimate trade.
EU support complements a broader investment programme
EU-funded projects implemented for the benefit of the Customs Administration amount to €25 million in total. The list of investments — which includes the customs terminal at Tabanovce — is part of steps required for alignment with the EU Customs Union as a single trade area.
According to officials, 21 of the new vehicles will be allocated to the Customs mobile unit and five will be assigned to the K-9 special unit. The IT equipment is linked to an upgraded server room at the customs headquarters, while new software establishes a unified user system for managing economic operators nationwide.
EU Ambassador Rokas said the objective of the assistance is to bolster customs capabilities to combat organized crime that affects trade and supply chains.
