EU says US should lift sanctions on the International Criminal Court
Spokesperson Siobhan McGarry said Brussels prioritizes dialogue while reviewing other measures to allow the ICC to continue its work.

The European Union said it would prefer that the United States withdraw the sanctions imposed on the International Criminal Court (ICC), EU spokesperson Siobhan McGarry told reporters today.
"Our preferred option would be for the United States to actually lift these sanctions," the spokesperson said at a media briefing.
When asked whether that meant the so‑called blocking statute was not a priority right now, McGarry said Brussels gives priority to dialogue and diplomatic activity.
EU weighing other measures while favouring talks
At the same time, she said the EU is examining all possible measures that could enable the ICC to continue its work and carry out its important tasks. The remark signals that, while diplomacy is preferred, other tools remain under consideration.
The statement comes amid ongoing tensions over measures taken by the United States against the ICC; Brussels says its initial approach is to seek quiet, diplomatic solutions while keeping options open to protect the court's functioning.
