Filipce: 3,000 fewer first-graders and 433 fewer classes — the record of Mickoski's policies
The SDSM president accused the government that its bad policies have led to mass emigration and a dramatic drop in the number of enrolled students.
Today marks the beginning of the new school year, and according to SDSM president Venko Filipce, the country has never had a sadder start to a school year. At today's press conference, Filipce claimed that a significantly smaller number of children were enrolled in the first grade compared to last year.
Dramatic drop in student numbers
"3,000 fewer children enrolled in the first grade, 433 fewer classes, 26 closed schools," Filipce stated, emphasizing that there is no greater and better indicator of the bad policies of the government led by Hristijan Mickoski than this number. He pointed out that last year 17,900 children were enrolled in the first grade, while this year the number is 14,900 children.
Emigration due to bad policies
According to the opposition leader, this drop is not only a result of demographic movements, but of mass emigration. "What happened to those people? It is certainly not only a result of demographic movements, those people simply moved out," he said. Filipce accused that citizens are leaving the country because they do not see a future in it, pointing to a lack of measures, progress, and good economic policies, as well as an absence of support for young married couples.
