Filipce asks Mickoski: Will data centres raise electricity prices and leave farmers without water?
SDSM President Venko Filipce raised a series of questions about the ecological and energy risks of the announced data centers, demanding answers from the Government regarding the potential consequences for citizens and the environment.
The President of SDSM, Venko Filipce, at today's press conference expressed serious concern and directed a series of questions to the Government regarding the announced construction of data centers in the country. He warned of potential energy and environmental risks, asking whether these facilities will leave citizens without cheaper electricity and farmers without water for irrigation.
Energy capacity and electricity prices
Filipce openly asked whether the state has sufficient capacity to supply electricity for such large consumers. According to his words, there is a risk that these data centers will draw all the electricity from the regions where they will be located.
"Do we have sufficient electricity capacity for those data centers? Where they will be located. Will that draw all the electricity from the region, from the place where the data centers will be located?" Filipce asked.
He also expressed concern about the impact on the price of electricity for citizens, posing the question: "What will happen to the price of electricity when there is such a consumer of electricity from the respective surroundings?".
Ecological risks and river protection
In addition to the energy aspects, the opposition leader also warned of potential ecological consequences, especially regarding the use of water resources for cooling the data centers. He demanded answers as to where the hot water will end up and how it will affect river ecosystems.
"What will happen to the hot water that will have to be returned somewhere, and which will be taken from the rivers? Will the natural world in the rivers be destroyed?" the SDSM president warned.
Filipce accused the Government of deliberately avoiding answering these specific questions, using the investment announcements as a distraction from real problems. All these questions, according to SDSM, remain unanswered, leaving citizens in uncertainty about the possible negative consequences on their standard of living and the environment.
