Belgrade to host 2029 UEFA Europa League final
UEFA assigned the 2029 Europa League final to Belgrade’s national stadium, which remains under construction.
The UEFA Executive Committee has chosen Belgrade to host the 2029 UEFA Europa League final, awarding the match to the city’s new national stadium which is still under construction.
The Football Association of Serbia announced the decision and described it as “this is a great pleasure, a privilege but of course also a responsibility to organize such an event,” calling the appointment an honour for the country.
According to the announcement, Belgrade prevailed over several other strong candidate cities and UEFA entrusted the Serbian capital with staging one of its major club finals.
Regional perspective
On the territory of the former Yugoslavia, an event of comparable scale was last held in 2017, when Skopje hosted the UEFA Super Cup between Manchester United and Real Madrid.
With the 2029 final assigned now, attention will turn to completion of the national stadium in Belgrade and preparations that the local organisers must carry out in the coming years to meet UEFA’s requirements for the showpiece match.
