Financial Police files criminal complaint against former Post director Jani Makraduli

The Financial Police has filed a criminal complaint with the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Skopje against a former director of the state-owned joint‑stock company Post of North Macedonia (AD), alleging abuse of official position under Article 353 of the Criminal Code.

According to the complaint, the ex-director is suspected of failing to settle a debt of 19 292 984 denars (about €314,000) that the company owed to two private firms. Court proceedings brought against the postal company led to judgments ordering payment of penalty interest that amount to 10 968 483,00 denars (about €178,000).

Allegations and the period under investigation

The Financial Police say the alleged misconduct took place between 2021 and 2022. Investigators state that, acting contrary to the company statute and the Law on Trade Companies, the director did not take the steps required to implement decisions of the Post's Management Board to pay the two creditors a total of 19 292 984 denars.

Although the necessary documents for payment were reportedly delivered to the director at the time, he did not sign the settlement agreement, did not confirm the invoices and did not sign payment orders, the Financial Police say.

"With such conduct he enabled legal proceedings to be initiated against the company, after which court judgments established obligations to pay penalty interest. In this way, AD 'Posta of North Macedonia' suffered total damage of 10 968 483,00 denars on account of penalty interest," the Financial Police said.

The complaint was submitted under the initials J.M. in the Financial Police statement; media reports have identified the suspect as Jani Makraduli, a former official of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM). Makraduli has previously held several public positions — long-time member of parliament, one-term vice-president of the Assembly, and deputy minister of environment and spatial planning.
