Von der Leyen confirmed EU recognition of Macedonian identity — SDSM demands the Prime Minister reveal next steps
SDSM urges the Prime Minister to outline concrete measures and a timetable to resume the country's EU accession path.

Ursula von der Leyen's visit to North Macedonia reiterated that the country's national identity has been recognised by the European Union, SDSM said in a statement following the meeting. The party used the visit to press for clarity from the government on the next steps required to resume the country's EU integration process.
What SDSM wants from the Prime Minister
SDSM called on the Prime Minister to publicly outline the concrete measures and timeline his cabinet plans to adopt so that North Macedonia can continue toward accession. The party argued that confirmation from von der Leyen strengthens their position but that a clear domestic road map is now needed.
The ruling party said von der Leyen's remarks remove doubts about recognition of Macedonian identity within EU institutions and therefore place responsibility on the executive to translate that acknowledgement into diplomatic and legislative moves.
Opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski has previously commented that a meeting with Ursula von der Leyen "could be of use in the future," underscoring that the visit has prompted reactions across the political spectrum.
Analysts say the government must now present specific steps — from diplomatic initiatives to legal or constitutional measures — that would keep accession talks on track and reassure EU partners.
SDSM said it expects the Prime Minister to provide the public with a timetable and to engage in cross-party consultations so that progress toward the EU can be sustained and irreversible.
