Gerhard Schröder joins supervisory board of Globus’s Russian unit
Shareholders named the former chancellor to the Russian unit’s supervisory board on 30 September; he is to lead strategic development in Russia.

Former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder has been appointed to the supervisory board of the Russian arm of the German retail group Globus, the company announced. Shareholders named Schröder to the board on 30 September, the Russian company Hyperglobus confirmed.
According to the statement, Schröder will take part in the company's overall management and will lead its strategic development in Russia. There has been no confirmation from the 82-year-old politician that he has accepted the post.
Background and controversy
The Russian subsidiary was separated from the German holding company in January 2025 and now operates independently in Russia. Schröder served as Germany's chancellor from 1998 to 2005; late in his tenure he negotiated with Vladimir Putin the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline across the Baltic Sea.
After leaving politics Schröder took positions with Nord Stream and the Russian energy group Rosneft. His close ties to Putin and his roles in Russian energy firms have drawn criticism for years, and he has met with Putin repeatedly since the start of Russia's war against Ukraine.
The appointment to Hyperglobus' supervisory board adds another chapter to Schröder's post-government career in business connected to Russia.
