Gynecologist Dejan Ognenović attacked inside Karpoš polyclinic; second cervical vertebra fractured
Ognenović says the assailant entered during examinations, threatened him and later physically attacked him; he reported the case on 16 September.
Gynecologist Dejan Ognenović was attacked inside his office at the Bucharest Polyclinic in the Karpoš municipality of Skopje and suffered a fracture to the second cervical vertebra, his statement to television said.
According to Ognenović, the assailant entered the consultation while he was examining patients, issued verbal threats and then physically assaulted him. In the hours after the attack he experienced difficulty moving his jaw and his arms.
Injuries and the police report
Medical documentation cited by the doctor confirms a fracture of the second cervical vertebra. Ognenović told reporters that he filed a police report the same day the incident occurred — on 16 September — but so far has not received further information from authorities and says he fears for his own and his family’s safety.
The doctor alleges the attack was the culmination of a series of threats he had received and that the motive was to remove him from the polyclinic; he pointed to professional competition as the likely cause. He also said that, days before the assault, two women wearing white coats had placed black tape over the office’s surveillance cameras, preventing recording.
Ognenović had the cameras installed after several patient medical files went missing, he said. He has held the concession for this gynecological office, and several others in the same polyclinic, for two and a half years.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said measures are being taken to fully clarify the case and that an appropriate criminal complaint will be submitted to the competent public prosecutor.
