Orce Gjorgjievski turns Skopje city page into party platform, councillors say

Councillors from SDSM and Levica accused Skopje's mayor of turning the city administration into a partisan platform during today’s session of the City Council, saying the municipality's official channels were being used to publish party statements.

SDSM councillor Katerina Canevska said that on October 20 the city's official Facebook page carried a party communiqué directed against SDSM and its leader Venko Filipche.

Partisan content on an official page, councillors say

"The official page of the City must not be a place where party statements are published; you have the party website and the party podium for that. The City of Skopje belongs to all citizens, to all councillors, it is not VMRO-DPMNE," Canevska said.

Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski did not directly reply to Canevska's accusation from the podium. Instead, from his seat he argued the post had been posted in response to criticism of the City of Skopje voiced by Venko Filipche.

The complaint highlights an ongoing dispute over how municipal communication channels are used and whether official accounts should publish material that councillors consider party-political. Councillors from SDSM and Levica urged the mayor's office to remove partisan messages from municipal platforms and to keep official channels neutral.
