Large wildfires in Southern California: 16,000 evacuated, 4,600 homes threatened

Large wildfires are burning across Southern California, threatening roughly 4,600 homes and placing at least 16,000 people at risk, authorities said as evacuation orders were issued for multiple areas.

Firefighting operations and injuries

About 400 firefighters were actively battling the flames, and another 400 personnel were en route to the incidents. Two firefighters were injured during the response and were taken to nearby hospitals; other accounts say at least one firefighter was reported injured.

The fires also pose a threat to homes in the coastal city of Malibu, west of Los Angeles. A fire department spokesperson said several hundred residents were forced to leave their homes.

The blaze known as the "Bryson Fire" broke out on Thursday evening. Hundreds of firefighters remain on the ground fighting the incident, and at least one of them was reported injured.

Temperatures in parts of Southern California climbed above 30 degrees Celsius, and the National Weather Service warned of the return of Santa Ana winds in some regions — strong, dry gusts that can accelerate the spread of wildfires.

Officials have ordered evacuations for numerous communities and continue to mobilize additional resources as conditions evolve.
