Severe storm with heavy rain, hail and strong winds northwest of Kumanovo, warns protection agency
Directorate for Protection and Rescue says heavy showers, strong winds, thunder and hail are occurring northwest of Kumanovo and may affect the town.
The Directorate for Protection and Rescue reported that a severe storm has developed northwest of Kumanovo, bringing heavy, downpour rain, strong gusts, thunder and episodes of larger hail. The agency warned the system could move into parts of Kumanovo later in the evening.
In the agency's message: "Attention! A large storm with heavy rain, strong wind, thunder and larger hail is northwest of Kumanovo! There is a possibility it will affect parts of Kumanovo!"
Weather service had forecast localized instability
The Hydrometeorological Service had earlier predicted generally sunny and warm conditions with small to moderate cloudiness, but noted that isolated instability was possible in places. Local developments were expected to bring heavy rain, strong wind and hail, and some of those processes could take the form of storms.
Forecasters also said the capital, Skopje, would remain warm with similar cloud conditions and that during the afternoon hours localized instability could produce heavy showers, thunder and gusty winds; in parts of the basin these events could become storm-like with hail.
Temperatures for the day were reported to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius. Authorities advised people in affected areas to follow updates and take standard safety precautions during intense storms.
